74% MERLOT, 14% CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 8% CABERNET FRANC, 4% MALBEC
Dark in colour with purple tints. On the nose, there are notes of fresh red berries, wild strawberries and cherries, along with sweet spices like vanilla and cinnamon. The palate is smooth and soft, but the wine’s personality gradually assert itself, with a very long finish. Best enjoyed on its own or with grilled beef served with gratin dauphinois.
At Thénac, from the 1st January to the 20th June, the total rainfall was more than in the whole of 2015. The fresh spring brought a late flowering at the end of June by which time the climatic conditions had totally changed. Not another single drop of rain fell on the vineyard until the 20th September and, in fact, we endure heatwave-like temperature in July and August. The vines could therefore catch up. The water reserves accumulated during the spring meant that the vine has had a constant access to water which, in turn, meant that we were able to get a perfect level of maturity for the grapes. The weather was ideal during the harvest with sunny days and cool temperatures.
